Synopsis

David Barrows world fell apart at the age of eleven after his mother died.  Years of physical and emotional abuse followed, leaving him scarred in body and mind, mired in the belief that he is unlovable. He spends his days working in a comic shop, and his nights alone wrestling with the ghosts of his past.

As a Marine, Adam Duncan has sworn to protect and serve, and there is no one he is more protective of than his brother and nephew.  When tragedy strikes, threatening the security of his family, his protective instincts kick in.  But how can he fight an enemy he can’t see?

David and Adam feel the connection between them, but David has built walls around his heart that no one has bothered to break through, until Adam..  Adam can see what a special man David is, and is willing to do whatever it takes to break down those barriers.  Can he make David see he doesn’t have to keep living his life…Looking In?

Excerpt

At the bottom of the stairs leading to David’s door, he turned and said, "Adam, thank you."

"You're welcome."

"I mean, for tonight.  I had…fun."

Feeling brave, I reached out and cupped his cheek with the palm of my hand.  My breath hitched at the physical contact.  He seemed to lean into my touch, closing his eyes and losing himself in the moment.  My thumb traced his chin, creating lazy circles on his skin, and I said, "I know what you meant.  I did to."

His eyes opened, and from the dim light cast by the street light, I would almost swear I saw desire reflected back at me from within the blue pools of his eyes.  While I certainly wouldn't have minded, our night had been full of what I knew to be firsts for him.  I didn't want to rush him.  I didn't want to scare him.  And I didn't want him to do something that he might regret later.  I reached a compromise with myself that I hoped would satisfy what I saw in his eyes.  "May I?"

"May you what?" he asked, almost breathless.

"May I kiss you?"

I felt his lips twist against the palm of my hand.  "Well, aren't you a gentleman."

I smiled as well.  "I try."

I leaned into him, keeping my approach slow, giving him time to pull away if he wanted, and tilted my head for a better angle.

He didn't budge.

At the first contact of our lips, I brought my other hand up, and gently cupped his face.  I felt his breath leave him in a gentle sigh, and he took hold of my waist.  The current that passed between us was raw and powerful, coursing through my body from every point of physical contact I had with him, and I felt that circuit complete again.

About Michael Bailey

Michael Bailey is the oldest of three, from the Glass Capital of the world, Toledo Ohio.

Don’t laugh too hard.

He’s dreamed of writing since he was eleven years old when he wrote a truly awful Choose-You-Own-Adventure.  It sold exactly zero copies.  His mother may have a copy lying around somewhere.  Mothers keep that kind of thing.

Through junior high and high school, he wrote a number of short stories, one actually published in the first (and only) issue of his high school’s literary magazine.

Life took control shortly thereafter, as it often does, and the dream of writing was put on hold.  Then, in November of 2016, he took a leap of faith, and began writing his first novel as part of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) competition.  The goal of the competition is to write a 50,000-word novel in a thirty-day period.

He failed.

However, on the advice of a friend, he “pushed through”. And so, in September of 2017, his first novel will be published.
